Six Walk-Through Check-Points

There are many data points to look for when completing Walk-Through's, and it is easy for administrators to be overwhelmed when trying to complete an effective five-minute Walk-Through.  I've put together six basic "Check-Points" to assist on assessing instruction during a Walk-Through.

ü  Instructional time is maximized.

ü  Students are on-task, engaged and the classroom environment is student-centered.

ü  There are opportunities for all students to participate.

üThe displayed “I can” statement (Objective/Essential Question) is aligned with the instruction taking place.

ü  The content of the instruction is aligned with the curriculum.

ü  The teacher is enthusiastic and energetic.

These six components of the Walk-Through can provide you an effective assessment of the classroom environment, content, and instruction.
