"Not Afraid" Lyrics and Why I Incorporated the Song Into Presentation

Yesterday, I surprised (and possibly shocked) a few of my faculty members by incorporating Eminem's "Not Afraid" into my "Legislation: Fact vs. Myth" presentation.  I provided a Pre-Assessment to every individual with the instructions to "work until the music stops", modeling an effective instructional strategy into the classroom.  You can view the presentation here: (Part I & Part II).

The choice of music was deliberate, not solely because I am an Eminem fan, nor because I constantly share my Michigan-roots as a North Carolinian.  The lyrics of the song, specifically of the chorus, were connected directly to the message of the presentation, in regards to legislation:

I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid
To take a stand, to take a stand
Everybody, everybody
Come take my hand, come take my hand

We'll walk this route together through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
Just lettin' you know that you're not alone
Holla if you feel like you've been down the same road
